MISSIONARY PURPOSE

My purpose as a missionary is to “invite others to come unto Christ by helping them receive the restored gospel through faith in Jesus Christ and His Atonement, repentance, baptism, receiving the gift of the Holy Ghost and enduring to the end.”

PROGRESSION LINE UPON LINE

Thoughts after arriving at the MTC: "It's been super awesome hearing about all the mission calls everyone is getting! The work is moving faster and faster every day! It becomes more and more apparent when you see 1,000 missionaries come in every Wednesday!"

Thoughts after leaving the MTC: "It’s a testimony just knowing that the church is right. The things that we’ve learned are true and real. The way I talk about the gospel now is different. The gospel is something that requires action and action is what God wants. It is real. This is what the world needs and I am engaged in the Lord’s work!"

Thoughts after 18 months: “I feel like I can handle anything now! I've learned how I will have a burning witness of the restored church until the day I die. That will be done by constantly seeking out answers to my questions.”

Thoughts after 24 months: "..."

Great Week

Wow, I am so proud of you guys!

Im super excited about your grandparents! We called this week and asked and I should be able to go on the 5th of December. We go down on the 2nd! Send as many names as you can get I can find someone to do them!

Im not distracted or anything but here in Tampere they just released a Kalevala movie! You should look it up and see if you can watch it. I also found a copy of Kalevala in Finnish. I cant understand a thing in it! The lady said its super old and complex Finnish!

This week we had Zone Conference. A lot of my friends were there. It was also on november 6th which marked the day I got my mission call to Finland 1 year ago! Crazy how fast time flys!

We taught our investigator at a members house and it went really well.

Yesterday was Isänpäivä or fathers day! They celebrate it in November here. But all the kids sang in church and it was adorable. They did a song where they sang in different languages. I remember when I was a kid we sang in spanish and english. Here they sang in Swedish, Estonion, Russian and English! It was really cool and totally adorable! Afterwards they handed out candy to all the dads. A member told us that she got the idea because they were on vacation in the states during our fathers day and they went to church and we handed out candy! Pretty cool.

Its pretty much dark all the time. We did see the sun yesterday though, thank goodness! Currently the sun goes up at 9amand goes down at 4pm. It will keep getting darker until December.

So Im not sure if you all know about the new Adjusting to missionary life book that came out. I call it the stress guide because thats basically what it is. I have become good friends with that book. Anyway, funny story, I was pondering about how the Gospel always comes back around and connects to something else. I said to my companion though, "I love how everything in the Gospel always comes back to the Stress guide!" I guess I need some sleep!

Yesterday after church a family invited us over for dinner, Hallelujah! After a ridiculous trek through Tampere we arrived and walked until we found the house. It was cold and dark and I was done for the day but it was only 5 o'clock! We got let in by a loving family and waiting on the table was... Mexican food!!!! I almost cried! It was the best meal I have ever eaten! It truly was a miracle!

We will be having the Tampere stake conference this week. We have to rent a huge event facility to do it because our chapel isnt big enough! President Rawlings and Elder Joetanus will be there. Also another General Authority is coming from Italy or something! I called President Rawlings last night to ask about the conference. I have been noticing that we tell members what we will be teaching in the lesson with an investigator and they straight tell us that we are wrong and we shouldnt do it like that. So I told President and he said dont worry thats what this conference is about! I am so excited its not funny! Preach My Gospel doesnt do a lot of good if only 80,000 members of the church know about it! President said every member should study from Preach My Gopsel everyday. Once everybody in the church understands and is living as it teaches us, thats when the work will start picking up!

While meeting with a member for language study this week, he told us about how when Christ rose from the dead, they found the clothes that were covering Him neatly folded up at the foot of his bed. The member told us that he believes that Christ folded the Himself, not the angels. It made me realize that the Savior is an example in literally every way imaginable. Even when it comes to making His bed in the morning!

Have a great week and keep working hard!

Here is the church in his area that burned down a few years ago:

This is the new church that was built in its place. Last week he referred to how ginormous it was. Three stories tall!
